Giants Must Fall, Or Should They Rise?

V: Looking back down the road you’ve taken together as a band, how do you feel? Has it been a surreal experience?
J: It has been a trying, bonding, loving experience for the band! We’ve had ups and downs but still fighting on to play is what we love. Surreal? Not really. But definitely, we’ve been blessed during the journey so far.

V: I’m blessed at least one of you was free to do the interview, haha! The general population says that Singapore’s music scene is more or less comatose. Your views?
J: People who say that are dead themselves! There are so many bands coming up. Everyone has to start from somewhere. It’s bustling and alive! There are so many tiers of local bands e.g. indie, the more atas indie, rock, punk rock, hardcore, and so many talented people! Singapore’s only 40 years old (that’s younger than my Dad!) so give it some time to bloom fully!

V: I hear you loud and clear. Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians out
there wanting to make it big in the local scene?
J: Yes! Keep playing, trust your gut, and always be true to yourself.

V: Now’s the chance to squeal on the boys in the band. Ready? Go!
J: Hmm…dark secrets huh? Like I would spill on them! Haha. But I do have one on Esmond (band manager); YOU’RE FAT! Aha! Ultimate score!!!!

V: High fives all around! Any plans for the near and/or far future?
J: We’re taking it as it comes. Most of the planning is up to Esmond. : )

V: After that insult, I wouldn’t be too sure if I was you, heh. Any last words? To the fans perhaps?
J: Thanks for the support! We’re so appreciative for everyone who comes to our gigs and buys our music. If only we could have a Thank Fan Day!

With the interview done, I eased back into the leather couch. If I wasn’t too lazy, I would have given myself a pat on the back. While looking forward to the gig in my mind and without having to avert my eyes, I reached for the only drink within reach. Cheers!
